Quetta: On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) authorized an infrastructure initiative for Balochistan. This initiative encompasses water resource development along with significant road projects.
This meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar via video link. The committee granted go-ahead to the Balochistan Water Resources Development Sector Project, along with the revised road projects for:
- Harnai–Sanjawi Road (55.834 km)
- Ziarat Mor–Kach–Harnai Road (109.882 km)
- A 110-kilometre road will connect the Chedegai border crossing between Iran and Pakistan to Panjgur.
Why This Matters
Officials noted that upgrading Balochistan’s internal road network is expected to ease mobility for local communities and strengthen regional trade corridors, particularly those linked with neighbouring Iran.
Improved routes could help reduce travel times, support local markets, and make transport safer in areas that currently depend on narrow or irregular roads.
For the water resources project, authorities emphasized its importance for agriculture, rural livelihoods, and long-term water management sectors in which Balochistan consistently faces shortages and volatility.
Who Attended
Attendees included federal and provincial officials: besides Ishaq Dar, participants were Balochistan’s Provincial Irrigation Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Zahid Saleem, Chief of Section (P&D) Inamullah Khan, Project Director BWRDSP Sufyan Durrani, Chief Engineer Design (C&W) Dr Sajjad Baloch, and Chief Foreign Aid (P&D) Batool Asadi.
Who Will Benefit
With this step, Balochistan may finally see infrastructure that matches its significance. Especially residents in remote areas along the approved road routes, border-region traders, and those in need of improved water access for drinking and agricultural use.
